CHICAGO ANGELS ADDED TO ABA EXPANSIONIndianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added the Chicago Angels to the growing list of expansion teams set to begin play in November. “We are very excited to have Marquis Brown Sr and Donald Johnson as owners,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Both have extraordinary backgrounds and experience and should do extremely well on and off the court.”A native of Chicago, Marquis has over 30 years experience as a player, developmental coach and mentor and runs the 5th Quarter Basketball Camp for kids where the motto is “There’s Life after 4 Quarters.” Marquis graduated from Paul Roberson High School and was a 4-year starter, All City and State 1st Team and led the city in scoring and was runner up Player of the Year to NBA star Kevin Garnett and was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014. “I am excited about giving back to the community by starting an anti-drug and gang initiative,” added Brown. “My goal is to help young athletes become successful academically while reaching their full potential in basketball and life.”Donald Johnson is also a native of Chicago and has 20 years of basketball experience as a player and advocate for sporting programs for inner city youth. In 2009, Donaldjoined with NBA star Derrick Rose and Reggie Rose to start Team Rose Ent and in 2013 became 2nd VP of NAACP Southside Chicago and worked to help stop youth violence and to help bring jobs and educational opportunities to Chicago residents.
