ABA ADDS TEXAS HURRICANES
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Texas Hurricanes have been added to its growing expansion teams for the upcoming teams for the upcoming season. “The Hurricanes are a great addition to our Southwest Division,” stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. “Coach Barbara Davis, the owner, has an incredible background in sports and should make a terrific owner. We are very fortunate to have her as part of the ABA.”
Coach Davis formed the Hurricanes in April 2009 after seeing so many talented young men at rec centers that wanted to take their game to the next level, so she formed a league called the Greater Dallas Southern Basketball League as well as starting her own sports officiating association, Texas Certified Officials in 2003 to fill the need for services for a city youth league. She also provides classes, programs, and activities for Mesquite Independent School District Community Education, the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation and has partnered with Dallas County Community College District Community Education and the Dallas Urban League.
With a degree in Criminal Justice, Coach Davis currently works in higher education and has been in the education field for the past 16 years, and has received recognition for her coaching and is a candidate for “Women of Distinction” for Women of Distinction Magazine, recognition with the International Women’s Leadership Association.
“We are really excited about this opportunity,” added Coach Davis. “We will be very competitive on and off the court, and will make Dallas proud.
