ABA HEADS TO ST. JOSEPH MISSOURI
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added the St. Joseph Shields to its growing list of expansion teams. “We have been very eager to grow our Great Plains Division which is under the leadership of Bryant Tucker Jr, owner of the Kansas City Soul,” stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. “So this is especially important and in Roger Nichols, owner of the Shields, we’ve found a very experienced man on and off the court.”
Roger Nichols is the former owner/head coach of the Nodaway County Bulls, a men’s semi-pro football team and was formerly head coach of the Springfield Thrills, a men’s semi-pro basketball team. He has also coached at the high school level, several professional leagues and holds a Degree in Theology.
“Having coached football and basketball at the professional level since 1992, I know what it takes to be successful on the court and off the court,” added Nichols. “I’ve seen what happens when you don’t make an impact in your community, when you don’t provide your fans with a great experience, when you don’t help your sponsors build their business and when you don’t establish strong press/media relations – things that I have always focused on and which I will do with our new ABA team. I am thrilled to be a part of such an historic league and will do my best to make St. Joseph and the ABA proud.”
