ABA WELCOMES TEAM PERSEVERAN
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Team Perseverance located in Sumter, SC has been added to the growing list of expansion teams getting set to begin play in November. “We have one great new team owner in Junko “Coach J” Allen,” stated ABA Co-founder Joe Newman. “We have no doubt this will be a great organization on and off the court. Can’t miss.”
Coach Allen is a native New Yorker who now resides in Sumter, SC. She has served almost 24 years in the US Air Force; her first 3.5 spent as an intramural and varsity director and her last 20 years as an AF medic and Medical Clinic Manager. While in the AF, she began her coaching and officiating career. She is the founder of Perseverance Basketball Association, a not-for-profit program that reaches out to “at risk” youth to provide a place of grace and a program that student athlete’s can learn the game of basketball while learning life skills.
Junko has coached boys, girls, men and women at different levels for over 20 years including AAU, middle school, high school, JUCO, Air Force as well as women’s professional basketball and is currently Associate Head Coach for the women’s Carolina Stars. She holds a business degree from SUNY Cobleskill and Allied Health Services from the Community College of the Air Force and is currently enrolled in Military Public University where she is majoring in Sports and Health Science. In addition, she is a certified basketball and volleyball official for the City of Sumter.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge of owning and operating a team in the ABA. I have no doubt that we will be a force both on and off the court and we will do everything we can to make Sumter proud,” added Ms. Allen. “Great works are done not by strength, but Perseverance.”
