Kissimmee, Fl. – With all the excitement of the NBA Finals, you may have missed this announcement;

The American Basketball Association is expanding to Central Florida. The league that originally formed in 1967 played for ten years before a merger with the NBA is back. Well they have been back since 1999 and last year the Daytona Beach Sharks joined the diverse league and now Orlando has a team. The Orlando Waves!

For years you have been told Orlando has no Waves, well now they do, so here is your chance to catch a Wave. Anthony “Amp” Stuckey is the owner of the Orlando Waves and he plans to build a team based on community, professionalism, and family. Anthony also owns Amp’d Athletics Central Florida, an AAU program in the Orlando area. He has over 25 years of coaching experience at the Elementary, Middle and High School levels and includes State Championships in 2011 & 2012 as well as two Coach of the Year Awards.

Amp believes, “A player must know how much you care before they care how much you know. You must teach them to play the game, display what was taught during game time and hold them accountable by not allowing them to cut corners during play. We will be a very strong team on the court and with my background in business management and organizational development we will be strong off the court too.”

Stuckey is moving quickly putting together his management team and the team that will begin play in the upcoming 2016-2017 which begins in November. He has chosen the Kissimmee Civic Center as the teams Home Venue. At this writing the list of coaches has been narrowed down to the top 15, and player tryouts are scheduled for July 24th and July 22nd (July 29th will be invitation only). All press and media are welcome to attend!

The Waves will join the Florida division of the ABA and compete against the Jacksonville Giants, Daytona Beach

Sharks, Miami Midnites, South Florida Gold, Georgia Kingz, Southcoast Fire, Native Pride, Florida All-Stars, Pensacola Energy, and another new team from Sarasota. ABA Co-Founder Joe Newman. “Orlando is truly a magic city, and the addition of Amp’s team is perfect for our tremendous Florida Division.” Just recently, three teams from the Division (Jacksonville Giants, Miami Midnites and South Florida Gold) competed in the Final Eight in Laredo,TX.

The original ABA did not have national television, national radio and today’s digital media. What it did have was the mystique of the ABA- featuring it’s red, white and blue ball, 3 point shots, wide open style of play including slam dunks (and the introduction of the first Slam Dunk Competition), and a remarkable group of players. The ABA produced some of the greatest players of the 20th century- Dr J, George Gervin, Spencer Haywood, Connie Hawkins, Dan Issel, Roger Brown, David Thompson, Mel Daniels, Moses Malone, Marvin Barnes and many others. In fact, 50% of the NBA All Star team in the first year of the merger were ABA players.

Today, the ABA has nearly 1000 players competing at the professional level, over 200 coaches and over 200 officials. It is made up of former NBA players, NCAA Division 1 and 2 players, McDonalds All Americans, international players, and is the platform for sending off many players to international teams.

The ABA will continue to grow as it continues to form valuable ties with basketball governing bodies, and grows its number of teams. Network coverage is set to broaden, as is the fan base and merchandising. Big things are in store for the ABA, and the red, white and blue ball is set to be around for a long time to come.
