ABA ADDS VIRGINIA WILDCATS TO 2020-2021 ROSTER OF TEAMS
The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added the Virginia Wildcats from the Hampton Roads area to its growing list of expansion teams for the upcoming season. “While we ended the season early as did not professional sports leagues,” stated ABA Joe Newman, “we’re hopeful that things will be back to normal by next season and we’ll be able to resume bringing exciting professional basketball at affordable prices back to fans. And with the addition of the Virginia Wildcats, we’ll continue our record-setting expansion that will grow the ABA to over 175 teams.”
The Virginia Wildcats will be owned by Nadine Warren, Dimitri Batten and Jaleel Nelson. Ms. Warren, a graduate of Marshall University, with a Master’s Degree from Antioch College and post-graduate studies at Northwestern University and University of Delaware, is an educator, entrepreneur, activist and lobbiest. She has worked tiredlessly as an advocate against gun violence since losing her daughter Beatrice in the Dayton OH shooting last August, including a nationwide “Bea Kind” billboard campaign. “We plan to provide a safe, fun, exciting environment,” added Ms. Warren.
Dimitri Batten is from Newport News, VA and played basketball for Old Dominion University where he received his undergraduate degree in sociology and earned his Masters in Administrative Studies. A former ABA player, he has coached at the high school, university and profesional level.
Jaleel Nelson is also an ABA player who had a very successful college career having graduated from Chowan University where he was a 3-time NCCAA All American player as well as receiving the NCCAA Top Student Athlete Award. He was also an ABA All Star player and played professionally in China, Kosovo, Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador.
