ABA ANNOUNCES SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Indianapolis, IN.
The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will officially begin a summer basketball league with participating teams playing a 12 game schedule starting in June. “This has been a long time coming,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “With nearly 2000 players in the ABA, so many have been asking us to create a summer league following our regular ABA season. We’ve tried it a couple of times before, but didn’t seem to have the right management to follow through on all of the details necessary. We do now.”
The ABA Summer League will be managed by a trio of experienced ABA team owners and
executives including Tjuan “Benafactor” Washington, CEO of ABA Media & Entertainment;
Brian “Essince” Collins, CEO of ABA Fusion and owner of the Akron Aviators and Ace Pippens,
owner of the Steel City Yellow Jackets. “We’re going to structure the ABA Summer League like the ABA with different regions,” added Washington. “The top teams in each region will advance to the playoffs. The season will run from June 6-August 16. Aside from trophies, Regional Champions will receive a cash prize.”
“It is important to note that the ABA Summer League is open to all teams, not just ABA teams,” commented Collins. “While we do have quite a few ABA teams committed, we are definitely looking for additional teams.”
Tom Chichester, ABA Director of Officials, added: “We are also planning to use the ABA Summer League as a training platform for officials interested in joining the ABA.” For more information,
