Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Topeka Sizzlers would be joining the league which begins play again in November. “Topeka should be a great ABA market,” stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. “And we believe we have the right leadership to maximize the potential of the team. Very excited about this addition.”
The team will be owned by a group of Kansas alums led by Calvin Thompson, who will also serve as GM/Head Coach. Calvin was a 1986 Final Four participant at the University of Kansas and was drafted by the New York Knicks after graduation. He played for the original Topeka Sizzlers in the CBA and after a nine year pro career, he returned home to start his Youth Program (Hoop Service) which he operates in the Kansas City area.
“The Topeka Sizzlers will continue to be a major force within the community by using basketball as a vehicle to get into the schools and reaching out and mentoring our youth with both our players and coaches,” added Thompson. “We are very pleased to be a part of the ABA and will do everything we can to make Topeka proud.” For more information, email[email protected], call Coach Thompson at 816 536 HOOP, or visitwww.abaliveaction.com.
