ABA Returns to Charlotte, NC

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will be returning to Charlotte NC next season with the addition of a new team. “Charlotte is a great city and could be/should be a great ABA city,” stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. “And we are very excited about having Karl Wilkes as part of the league; is resume and experience are tremendous, sort of like having a celebrity owner.”

Karl Wilkes is a 2nd generation basketball player professionally trained for six years by his uncle, Jamaal Wilkes, who played in the NBA for 12 years, 4 years with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he would four NBA Championships and is now inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame. Karl, a graduate of Clemson University is a motivational speaker for Fortune 500 companies and is recognized as an international award winning visual artist and is current on tour for the White House supporting the White House Initiative on 105 HBCUs.

He has an extraordinary record as both a player and coach in the US and internationally as well as being a AAU Head Coach and Director of Player Development and personal training. “I’ve been watching the ABA for quite awhile,” added Wilkes. “It is an extraordinary league…huge in size…with amazing diversification of ownership, so inclusive and so receptive to new ideas and concepts..this should be a great experience.”
