Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added a team in Springfield MA to its growing list of expansion teams for the upcoming season. “At long last,” stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman, “we have a team in Springfield, the Birthplace of Basketball, and it couldn’t be more fitting than in the 50th Anniversary Year of the ABA.”
The team will be owned by Zachary Baru, a business teacher at Holyoke High School in Holyoke, MA and a graduate of American International College in Springfield where he received his BA in Business Administration and Masters in Education.
“My goal has always been to inspire students to become successful, young business professionals,” added Baru. “And I believe my ABA team will be of great value in helping to achieve this goal.”
Baru has worked with the Springfield Spirit of the National Women’s Basketball League, the Greater Springfield Pro-Am Basketball League, the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League and the Miami Dolphins of the NFL working in the Youth Programs and Operations departments.
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, currently living in Longmeadow, in addition to his interests in education and business, he also enjoys concerns, golf, tennis, hockey and spending time with family and friends.
