HAWAII HAMMERHEADS ADDED TO ABA
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added the Hawaii Hammerheads to is rapidly-growing list of expansion teams for the upcoming season. “We are very pleased to be returning to Hawaii after a couple of tries,” stated ABA Co-Founder Joe Newman. “Transportation has always been a difficulty, but this problem has been solved by the Hammerheads’ ownership group, and at least seven of our mainland teams will be enjoying an Hawaiian vacation next season.”
The Hammerheads will be locally-owned byh NES Sports LLC, a group of private investors located in Honolulu. Kevin Williams will serve as President of Basketball Operations. He is a Regional Vice President of Primerica Insurance Company and played college basketball at Huston Tillotson College in Austin, TX. He also graduated from Sports Management Worldwide in GM/Scouting and has covered the ABA for US Basket for the last three years.
“We are excited to bring the ABA brand to the State of Hawaii,” added Williams. As the first Hawaii team, we would like to make an immediate impact in the community and we thank the ABA for the opportunity and support. We expect big things in Hawaii for years to come.”
Serving as Special Advisors to the team are Marlon Minifee and Lamar Stephens, owners of the Laredo Swarm, this past seasons #1 ranked team and host of the ABA Finals in Laredo. “I followed the Swarm this season,” commented Williams, “And I saw they were a first class organization from top to bottom. Working with these two men will be a great asset to our organization and will help us become one of the best organizations in the ABA. Actually, Marlon played college ball here and lived in Hawaii for many years; he will be invaluable to us.”
